Company Auditions

The highest rank in the company. Principal dancers have fully matured technique, proficient pointe work, and the artistic range to embody any role. They lead the company on and off the stage.Dancers have the technical abilities and artistic maturity to hold their own in soloist roles. Principal dancers have perfected their technique and show they can embody any character they are dancing and connect with the audience. They have an established technical foundation, pointe work is fully proficient, and their performance quality and sense of artistry are mature. Principal dancers should be leaders of the company off the stage as well, and need to show a positive attitude towards learning and growing while working with directors, past and present.Requirements:Three (3) classes with Ballet Wichita’s Academy, Monday- Thursday, and the two (2) Company classes on Friday and Saturday as a Professional Company Member. This should include pointe work in the center for four (4) classes and participation in at least one pointe-focused class (whether it be an entire class in a lower-level class or a variations class). Dancers are also expected to attend at least one conditioning class a week.Opportunity:• Payment stipend for all performances in the 2026 season.• Principal roles in seasonal productions.• Extra income from teaching with the Ballet Wichita Academy, if applicable.• Extra income from additional events that may arise throughout the season.

Dancers with the technical and artistic maturity to carry soloist work across all levels. Professional-level dancers who cannot commit to a full season due to outside obligations or a second career. Expected to participate in Nutcracker and at least one additional production.Dancers have the technical abilities and artistic maturity to hold their own in soloist roles. They have an established technical foundation, pointe work is fully proficient, and their performance quality and sense of artistry are mature. Dancers who are performing at a professional level and quality but cannot commit to a full season due to outside obligations or a second career.Requirements:While participating in a production expected to attend the two (2) Company classes on Friday and Saturday as a Professional Company Member and at least one (1) academy class per week. This should include pointe work in the center and participation in at least one pointe-focused class (whether it be an entire class in a lower-level class or a variations class). Dancers are also expected to attend at least one conditioning class a week and one contemporary/modern/jazz dance class a month. Opportunity:• Payment stipend for all performances dancers participate in for the 2026 season• Soloist roles in seasonal productions.• Extra income from teaching with the Ballet Wichita Academy, if applicable.• Extra income from additional events that may arise throughout the season.• Expected to participate in Nutcracker and one other season production but has the ability to dance in the entire season

On the verge of the professional level. Ready for small soloist and duet roles. Strong technical foundation with pointe approaching proficiency and an emerging sense of artistry. Dancers are on the verge of the professional level. They are ready to be challenged with small soloist and duet roles, but are still in the pre-professional division based on age or artistic capabilities. They have a strong technical foundation, pointe work is approaching proficiency, and their sense of artistry is beginning to be developed. Dancers have shown a positive attitude towards learning and growth while working with directors, past and present.Requirements:Three (3) classes with Ballet Wichita’s Academy, Monday- Thursday, and the two (2) Company classes on Friday and Saturday as a Pre-Professional Company Member. This should include pointe work in the center for three (3) classes and participation in at least one pointe-focused class (whether it be an entire class in a lower-level class or a variations class). Dancers also are expected to attend at least one conditioning class a week and one contemporary/modern/jazz dance class a week. Opportunity:• 8% tuition discount on all classes at Ballet Wichita Academy.• Small soloist and duet roles in seasonal productions.• Opportunity to understudy professional roles.• Potential to perform with the Professional Division at events that may arise throughout the season. (Dancers may be paid a stipend based on the event).• Opportunity to either intern or teach for the Ballet Wichita Academy (based on experience).

Leaders of the ensemble. Takes lead roles within the corps and smaller group or solo work. Developing technique with semi-proficient pointe. Beginning to perform en pointe with enough strength to dance without the barre. Executing more complex choreography with consistent technique and developing artistry. Dancers are beginning to perform en pointe. They are capable of executing more complex combinations/choreography with consistent technique. Female dancers have built enough strength en pointe to dance without the barre. Dancers are learning how to incorporate artistry into their movements. Dancers show a positive attitude towards learning and growing while working with directors.Requirements:Three (3) classes with Ballet Wichita’s Academy, Monday - Thursday, and the two (2) Company classes on Friday and Saturday as a Pre-Professional Company Member. Taking training seriously and building toward more performance opportunities. Strengthening technique with increasing class load. Able to retain combinations day to day. Dancers have begun taking their ballet training seriously and want to put in the work for more performance opportunities. They are focusing on strengthening their technique as they increase their amount of training. Dancers are able to remember combinations/choreography from day to day. Dancers show a positive attitude towards learning and growing while working with directors.Requirements:Two (2) classes with Ballet Wichita’s Academy, Monday - Thursday, and the two (2) Company classes on Friday and Saturday as a Pre-Professional Company Member. This should include pointe work in the center for one (1) class and participation in at least one pointe-focused class (whether it be an entire class in a lower-level class or a variations class). Dancers are also expected to attend at least one conditioning class a week and one contemporary/modern/jazz dance class a week. Opportunity:• 2% tuition discount for classes at Ballet Wichita Academy.• Junior Corps de Ballet roles in seasonal productions.• Opportunity to understudy Corps de Ballet and Character roles.• Potential to perform at events that may arise throughout the season.

For dancers balancing their senior year of school or a full-time job alongside continued training and performance. Partial season commitment, variety of roles based on technique level. Dancers who are balancing their senior year in education or a full-time job while continuing their ballet training and performance opportunities. Dancers have developing technical abilities, pointe work is semi-proficient, and they are learning to utilize their performance qualities in their movement. Dancers show a positive attitude towards learning and growing while working with directors.Requirements: Two (2) classes with Ballet Wichita’s Academy, Monday- Thursday, and the two (2) Company classes on Friday and Saturday as a Pre-Professional Company Member. This should include pointe work in the center for two (2) classes and participation in at least one pointe-focused class (whether it be an entire class in a lower-level class or a variations class) a month.
