Ballet Wichita
is an independent,
non-profit organization run by an active Board of Directors and a small
dedicated staff, with the assistance of over 100 parent and community
volunteers: The LEGWARMERS. We deeply
appreciate the efforts of these women and men who volunteer countless hours, working year
round, and build costumes, offer backstage support, usher our
mantinee students, and help take care of our studio. If you are interested
in volunteering, call the Office at 316-687-5880.
Jill Landrith was appointed Artistic Director of Metropolitan Ballet of Wichita
in 1997 after her performing career as a soloist with the Aachen Ballet in West
Germany and a member of Ballet Met of Columbus, Ohio. While in Germany, Jill
performed as a guest artist in Dusseldorf with Robert Wexler, a noted modern
dance choreographer; and had many roles created for her by Thorston Muller. Her
dance training includes extensive work with David Howard, Maggie Black, Bill
Martin-Viscount, Rebecca Wright and Francoise Martinet, after beginning her
studies in dance with her mother, June Landrith, founding artistic director of
Ballet Wichita.
Landrith has had over 25 years of teaching experience. She is currently an
adjunct faculty member of the WSU School of Performing Arts / Dance Program and
is the Deputy Director of the Nancy Hervey School of Ballet. Jill created an
innovative introduction to dance and the arts open to all children ages 5-10
years of age for the Unified School District 265 in Goddard, Kansas and directed
that program for nine years. In 2000, she founded a non-profit to bring dance
education to children with disabilities, a strong personal interest. In addition
to her directing and teaching, Jill is noted for her choreographic work,
including the original pieces Torch and Degas, a recent staging of Prokofiev's
Romeo and Juliet and her collaborative Nutcracker with Nancy Hervey.
Barbara Chamberlin was appointed Executive Director of Ballet Wichita in 2007.
Barbara is a native Wichitan and an established and vibrant leader in
not-for-profit organizational management. Barbara's career includes being a
professional partner of 14 years with Wichita Festivals, Inc. (producers of the
annual Wichita River Festival) including 7 years as their Director. Barbara next
served as the Director of Corporate Relations for Big Brothers & Big Sisters of
Sedgwick County, and ultimately to become the Director of Botanica, The
Wichita Gardens for 8 wonderful years.
Sandy Wolter, Director of Operations for Ballet Wichita, joined the company in
2003. In addition to her work with BW, Wolter oversees the operations of a
private foundation, which serves to support the arts in Kansas. Ms. Wolter
earned bachelor's degrees from the University of Kansas in Art and Psychology
and completed two years of graduate study in social policy/social work at K.U.
She also does volunteer work with the Wichita Montessori School, assisting with
their development and marketing efforts.
